TRAIN OPERATOR LOCATIONS – Acton Town (Piccadilly & District), Earls Court, Queens Park, Elephant & Castle, Hammersmith, Edgware Road, East Finchley, Golders Green, Morden, Arnos Grove, Seven Sisters and Wembley Park – Trains (£38,311)

The Job

Operating a safe, efficient train service through one of the world’s busiest cities is a tremendous challenge and as one of our Train Operators you will be at the sharp end, in more ways than one!

Not only will you drive the train to the very highest safety standards, you will also be a key player in providing an excellent customer service and dealing with the many different situations that can arise on our busy network.

A day in the life
Now let us take a look at a typical journey...

Before departure, you will carry out basic checks to ensure your train is suitable and safe for service. This is a very important part of your duties and follows a set list of procedures that will soon become second nature.

Your customer service tasks then begin with on-board announcements and answering any enquiries from the public. It is here that you are very much the face of our service, so a patient, polite approach is essential.

You will then guide your train through the network, working to very high safety standards. This is where your training will really kick in, as you respond to signals, drive smoothly and at all times ensure the safety of passengers.

Of course, the unexpected can happen, so you will find yourself working with control room teams, police and many other colleagues to manage a great of variety of situations - from security alerts to medical emergencies.

In the vast majority of cases however, you will proceed steadily, safely and on-time to your destination, where you will prepare for the next journey.…

The majority of our depots have staff car parking facilities and we also operate a staff taxi scheme to assist staff in either getting to work for an extreme early shift or to get home from an extreme late shift.
